About Us
Background
100+ Women Who Care began in 2006 in Jackson, Michigan by Karen Dunigan as a simple way to quickly raise money for a local charity in need of baby cribs for economically challenged mothers. She rallied her network of friends and assembled a group of 100 women. Each woman wrote a check for $100 directly to the charity. In one hour, they raised over $10,000 to buy 300 new cribs. When Karen realized how easy it was to raise money for this cause, the idea of 100+ Women Who Care was born.
A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.

Our Mission
Driven by a desire to make a difference in our local community and inspired by hundreds of
like-minded groups across the country and world, we seek to create a local group of motivated women who are committed to the power of collective philanthropic giving.
The premise is both simple and significant: engage 100 or more women who agree to contribute $100 three times a year (women age ≤35 may contribute a lesser amount of $50 three times a year) to qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are located in and serve Talbot County. That’s potentially $30,000 annually!
How It Works
Members meet for one hour three times a year (although you need not be present to contribute).
Three nonprofits are randomly selected in advance from members' nominations. Each are invited to attend and make a brief presentation sharing why the contribution should go to them and how they will use the funds.
Following the presentations, members vote by ballot for the nonprofit they find most compelling.
Votes are tallied on the spot and members are asked to either write a check for $100 or donate online to the nonprofit which receives the majority of votes (all contributions are 100% eligible for a charitable income tax-deduction).
While votes are being tallied, the previous selected nonprofit recipient shares a report on what they did with their $10,000 so members can hear directly about the impact of their support.
